Microsoft Word is packed with hidden gems that go far beyond standard typing and formatting. Many of these “secret” tools can drastically cut down your formatting time, automate tedious tasks, and completely change how you interact with your documents.

Here are the best hidden features in Microsoft Word you probably didn’t know existed: Advanced Text & Selection Secrets

The “Spike” Multi-Item Clipboard: Standard copying (Ctrl + C) only saves one item at a time. The Spike lets you cut multiple blocks of text or images from different parts of your document and paste them all together later.

How to use it: Select text and press Ctrl + F3 to cut it into the Spike. Repeat this for as many pieces of text as you want. When you are ready to paste everything in chronological order, move your cursor to the destination and press Ctrl + Shift + F3.

Rectangular Text Selection: Usually, highlighting text selects whole sentences from left to right. If you want to select a perfect vertical block or column of text within a paragraph without grabbing the rest of the lines, hold the Alt key while clicking and dragging your mouse.

Write Anywhere Like a Whiteboard: You do not need to spam the Enter key or spacebar to place text in the middle or bottom of a blank page. Simply double-click anywhere on a blank canvas, and Word will automatically insert the necessary paragraph breaks and tabs to let you start typing right there.
